Eileen Obser

Welcome!

As a writer, a teacher, and as an editor, I am hoping to connect with
kindred spirits through this website.  It's also my way to stay in touch
with my students, past and present, and with writing colleagues,
agents and editors.  I want to know what you are doing, what you are
writing and publishing, and wish to keep you informed of my own
doings.  (
See current writing workshop schedule below.)

Contact me and let me know if you want to see other information on
this website that may be useful to you and to others.

Please read my
Bio, Facts of (My) Life, Teaching, and Read my
Work.  These categories will tell you everything you want to know
and more about this teacher/writer person, Eileen.

I add newly published material and update a
Newsletter periodically
that has news about my
Teaching and my students. Check the Links,
too, which you may find useful.

UPCOMING WRITING WORKSHOPS

"Writing About Your Life," our workshop series at the Hampton
Library in Bridgehampton resumed on Tuesday, April 10
and ran forl
six weeks, ending on May 15.  The workshop includes personal
essay, memoir and readings.
We will resume classes on Tuesday,
July 10, from 5-7 p.m.  Call the library at 537-0015 to register.

Suffolk County Community College held its Fifth Annual Creative
Writing Festival late in April, and I presented a workshop, also called
"Writing About Your Life" on Saturday, April 28.  An all day event,
the Festival included panel discussions, workshops, a buffet
luncheon and a keynote speaker. It was a great day. Very rewarding,
with good attendance and lots of information and creativity spread
around.

Also at Suffolk County Community College, our spring 2012
eight-week workshop in "Creative Writing for Fiction and Non-Fiction
Writers" (our 16th year!) began on March 10
at the Selden campus
and
endied on May 12.  We break now until the fall, when the next
series is scheduled to start on Saturday, October 6 and run through
December 1.

The Connetquot Library group met for its last winter session on
Thursday, March 22.  After a spring hiatus, we will meet again
starting Thursday, June 28 for six weeks, ending on August 16
for
our memoir writing workshop,  Open to district residents only, there
is no charge. Please call the library at 631-567-5079 to register.

A summer course in "Creative Writing: Fiction and Nonfiction" is
being offered at the Ross School, where I've taught since 2006.  We
will meet on five Monday evenings, from 6-8 p.m. from July 16
through August 13.  The fee is $175 and you can call the Ross
School at 631-902-5191 for more information and to register.

The Southampton Cultural Center is another venue for a summer
workshop, as in previous years.  "Memoir and Personal Essay
Writing" will meet on Tuesday afternoons from July 10-31, from 1-3
p.m.  The fee is $120, and the phone number to call is
631-287-4377.

I had the pleasure of being a presenter this winter at the Puerto
Vallarta Writer's Conference, from Friday February 23 through
Sunday February 25, where I ran three workshops related to memoir
and pesonal essay. I met so many interesting new writers who
traveled from all over, reaquainted myself with fellow members of the
Puerto Vallarta Writer's Club, and enjoyed the beauty of the region
for the nine days I was there.  I hope to participate in the Conference
again next February.

As new workshops are scheduled, or if there are any changes in the
above, I'll post the information here.

Keep writing!
